Xingu, the river that beats in us
Descrição
⚠⚠⚠ ADVICE ⚠⚠⚠ On August 29, 2018, ISA received an extrajudicial notification sent by the company Norte Energia SA, which, in summary, unfounded, accuses the Instituto Socioambiental of making defamatory use of the name of the company in the context of Scientific Works, especially the material audiovisual project called "Xingu, the river that beats in us". ISA, in this act, rejects and disputes the content of the notification, due to the imprecision and inadequacy of the arguments and claims contained therein. We fully reiterate the content of the video, considering that it is strictly limited to the description of the socio-environmental obligations included in the environmental authorizations granted by IBAMA and the National Water Agency (ANA) for the construction and operation of the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Power Plant. In order to avoid any kind of unjustified legal confrontation, ISA has voluntarily opted to exclude the company's logo from the video, although it considers that the video's original version has substantial protection in the legislation, since the exclusion of logo does not affect the content and goals of the video. -------- Water under dispute! With the definitive damning of the Xingu River in 2015, the amount, velocity and level of the water in the region no longer depends of the natural flow of the river, but rather on the concessionaire of the Belo Monte hydroelectric plant: Norte Energia. Through the so-called "Hydrographic Consensus," the company will control the volume of water that will pass through the gates of the plant and descend through Volta Grande do Xingu. The Juruna (Yudjá) closely monitor the region and warn of the risks of this change: the disappearance of animal species, some of them endemic to the region, and the consequences for the survival of their people. They have already proven that the hydrographic schedule proposed is insufficient to maintain life in the region and demand that it be reviewed.
